PRESS: Transport Ministry mulls new duty on aviation tickets

MOSCOW, May 25 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Transport Ministry is discussing with representatives of the industry a new duty on purchases of aviation tickets to replenish a reserve fund for support of passengers in case of force majeure, Izvestiya business daily reported on Wednesday citing three sources.

“The Transport Ministry, TCP (the former Transport Clearing Chamber) and state-owned corporation Rostec are discussing creation of a fund to support air passengers in Russia… The document indicates that the fund is planned to be created using non-budget funds,” the newspaper reported citing a letter of Deputy CEO of TCP Alexei Shubenkov to the ministry.

According to the document, the price for air tickets will not increase as the new duty will be formed by redistribution of other duties.

“The size of the duty has not been set yet, but a payment of 70 to 250 rubles per ticket is discussed. Part of the payment can be sent as a servicing fee to the system’s operator,” Izvestiya also said citing sources in the aviation industry.
